A New Love

Could it be only yesterday we met? This night together seemed so very right. So nice to wake up to a happy face, To find you with me still at morning light. I dare not think my lonely days are done, It is too soon to be so optimistic. I must be patient, wait to see what comes, Dampen my ardor, be more realistic. Is this but the first of our shared breakfasts? I fear I’ll frighten you with silly talk. You must admit that we are good together. I grab your leash and take you for a walk.

Joyce, thanks so much for entering my contest and congratulations on your HM. I love this poem and love the personification of one's affection to their best friend. Being an avid dog lover myself, I wondered, yeah? ... so, where's the twist? ;-) Terrific write and thanks again for entering the contest. Joe

LOL The last line is priceless, Joyce. I was "blind-sided" for sure. Maybe I need to buy a dog. (Just kidding -- my house and property are too small and lots of pets lose their lives on the street where I live. People drive so fast.) Thanks for the good wishes. Love, Carolyn
