Old Red

Old Red There was this old dog that hung around our neighborhood. Everybody just called him old Red, ugly as could be, but his temperament was good. Old Red had a nose that could sniff out a good meal, And if you happened to be picnicking outside, well watch your food cause old Red knew how to steal. He was good with the kids he knew all their games, And the kids all loved old Red and were happy when he came. There was a vacant lot where the kids would all play, And one day while they were playing old Red killed a snake in that lot with the kids that day. Old red got pretty sick and one of the parents loaded him up and took him to the vet. They gave him an antidote cause it was a rattler that had bitten him several times and they didn’t know the outcome quite yet. His poor old head had swollen up so big it looked like it was going to pop, And the kids say he had a hold that snake that day and was a shaking it but weren’t about to let it drop. Right at two weeks later we got to bring old Red home to the neighborhood, He was practically a celebrity this old worthless mutt was loved and that was good. He just had too much love to give to belong to just one person, And in this neighborhood everybody’s heart he had won. What ever old Red wanted around here he pretty much got, And what he gave in return was also quite a lot.
