Beyond the Rain

The radio played an old familiar song As they quietly drove along It had rained that day When they sent Grandma off to heaven "The angels are crying" she had heard mom say Grandma took her glorious journey at age seventy seven And as she sat in the car With raindrops rolling down the windshield like tears She thought of those years She had spent at Grandma's house Oh how Grandma would bake those apple pies And read her all those nursery rhymes It was then she let out a youthful sigh Those were such happy times And as she looked beyond the rain She could almost hear Grandma say "I love you" Her tears then fell as she whispered "I love you too Grandma"..... And the rain played on..... ---

A very moving and beautiful write, Joseph. My Grandma passed away when I was only 7 years old, so I can relate to the emotion in this. Well done! Congratulations on your win!

Joseph. I just love it. But I hope you will read the blog Craig did this past week telling us the poems in his contest were supposed to be about our own reflections on our own lives. Well, that is what I got from what he was saying. Just to let you know. However, for me, this is a superb poem.

Oh, Joe, you have me crying now. Every time someone I love dies, it rains. That was the topic of the first poem I ever wrote. It rained on the funerals of my husband, mother, both grandmothers and my grandfather. When my father died, it snowed. This is such a touching verse. How I miss all those whom the rain has claimed for seats in heaven. Love, Carolyn

It's okay, Joe. I cry when I see sad movies. Sometimes even commercials make me cry when they evoke memories. You really did a beautiful job on this poem!

Didn't mean to make you cry Carolyn.. but as you so profoundly said in that last sentence we can take comfort with the fact that they are in heaven...Love
