Winter's Thinking Spot
Beyond the foot bridge where I walk here today
A small bird stopped by
And left me an ear full of noise
We shelter our thoughts away as though we were hibernating
White blankets the landscape that once was green and lush
Where the last gasps of warmth sink in around the lavender
All is asleep on this meager spot
Silent echoes from the winter’s bath
Where I watch in delight while he looks for his food
Holly berries and bushes alike
His freedom is
But a flight away from me
But he ponders as though he too was thinking
And I wait in hopes, he’ll remember and return
Beyond the foot bridge where I walk here today
