Poem
There are millions of loves. There are the loves that come in seasons; The winter that covers you in white, So innocent, yet so deadly if you let it sit on you too long, Suffocating you under its beautiful yet heavy and thick snow. The spring that brings you flowers, It dances in meadows with you, admiring the flowers that have grown, Yet makes you sick whenever you smell them because you have discovered that pollen Is only okay in small doses for you, And too much can become a bother. The summer that brings you long days, Enough time for you to spend the day light together, Enjoying the warmth, it brings you and the gold glow it brings your skin. But hating the long nights of heat and thundering rain Making you wonder why you ever liked summer at all. The fall with its different colored leaves, Walking passed the trees admiring their strength to hold on, And realizing they are even stronger when they must let go, Because even they know they are only around for the season. Then there are the lifelong loves, The kind of love that wakes you up in the middle of January at 3 am because they’re cold, And could use your warmth instead of the blanket they’re under. The kind of love that drags you to the April carnivals, You may have to visit a CVS to grab a Benadryl but you don’t mind falling asleep on the Ferris wheel. The kind of love that doesn’t mind sitting under the stars with you in the middle of July, It might start to pour, but his love doesn’t mind dancing in the rain for a while, Even though this kind of love might be pissed when you get their seats wet. The kind of love that loves walks in the middle of September, Summer will never look the same because this kind of love changes with the leaves, It looks the same, yet different; Just as beautiful as you remember it last year, It’s colors are just as vibrant on the tree as they are on the ground, This kind of love is just as strong because it too realizes that the seasons may change, But they always come back. It is easy to confuse a season with a lifetime when you become accustomed, Cold nights can be warm enough for you to forget your chills, Red puffy eyes are easily remedied with eye drops that hide tears, Thunder and lightning are easily forgotten once the sun comes out, Changing leaves are easy to ignore once they’ve been walked over. A lifetime love will teach you the difference between staying warm together And grabbing a blanket for yourself Going to CVS after day in the park, instead of going home to your medicine cabinet, Learning to dance in the rain, rather than ignoring the storm, Admiring the beautiful colors and missing them once they are gone, rather than being relieved Because they have finally fallen.
