Poem
Several moons ago, a wealthy man From our village, known all over the villages Flew to our school, which was only a bare land We wrote with sticks on the ground Watching the birds that always flew close Playing with the ants that always enjoyed our warmth Picking on the worms that always hid in our papers, the soil He came and gave us a long speech All about a new school Made of brick and metal We were so excited, our parents were filled with happiness The construction began, it was a community effort The soil was moved, the bricks were laid and up it grew The opening ceremony was a ribbon of memories The village breathed new air of prosperity The dreams and hopes multiplied New teachers were employed Sponsors arrived to support this foundation Waking up in the early dawn to tend the cattle, sometimes going to school in empty stomachs Walking to school for miles some of us without shoes became a fun adventure We knew we had chairs to sit on, tables to write on and pens to tell our stories Our class was the first to graduate And today i write this story To appreciate my studies Not with a stick but with a pen For i now sit with the suns
