Poem
I once rode a hurricane from Trinidad to Budapest. Almost drowned five times grabbing onto driftwood that floated by to stay alive. Prayed and prayed for a ship to passby. Finally landed in a place of many temples A monk had given me rest. Nourished me spiritually set me on a peaceful path, told me to stop searching for what I lack. Taught me to look back, and see how everyday was like that of a sparrow, God had supplied my needs. Told him once I find my way, I'll be back to pay it forward. Took some years before I was able to swim the seas again on my way to see that old monk again. When the storm came, I dived right in From Trinidad to Budapest I swam Determined to show my appreciation for a man who had taught me to look within. When I had arrived, I found the monk had left shortly after me. Knew I wasn't a strong swimmer, it was he who had thrown me lifelines and pulled me to shore He stood against the storms made the seas at ease. Gave up his temple to look after me. I began to cry remembering times I was able to pray for others but instead prayed selfishly. Remembered times I was able to swim on my own, but kept the life preserve on. When it felt as if I was standing still, it was he who was pulling me. His words acting as an undercurrent delivering me. I decided to stay at the temple until another person in need came along and I was able to pass along how to survive a storm Following him or her through life's difficulties never judging, never becoming a here I am type person, quietly standing in the background making hurricanes feel like splashes in a tub. That's what dads do. Never really seems particularly efficient at the time, but looking back, I realize his words kept me from drowning several times, and he himself kept me, several more
