Poem
The traveler walks past the ancient woods He is traveling because his job is to sell goods Suddenly tall figure walks out of the woods The figure is wearing something resembling monks’ hoods The figure asks if he can sit next to the fire The traveler says he may if he so desire The figure puts piece of juniper into the fire And smell is such that dream in a soul it will inspire The hooded figure asks he to pass the time He may tell the traveler the story of something sublime So he began tell the story in a rhyme Remaining traveler that stories don’t cost a single dime He said there are two flowers different than any others in the world In the depth of winter when it is really cold If one is so bold In the winter solstice flower of fern one can find as it petals it will unfold The flower grants every whish Whether it is pot of gold or to swim like a fish But there is price to pay for that whish One must abandon all the once one loves to get the hollow wish Many times this story was told Said the traveler moving towards flame to escape the cold Yes the story is pretty old Said the monk but there is another flower worth more than gold It is a beautiful lily that grows Unlike all other lilies when it snows When winter solstice suggests it should long ago froze There is strange light shining upon lily which glows This lily can make your wish come true So you see of such flowers there are two But lily has another virtue You don’t need to sell out for your wish to come true But this virtue is That lily has one leg in thing the other in abyss And in the abyss one, only, absolute ability to control destiny exists And it is divine beyond immortal bliss The traveler looked at a young bud Upon a tree towering above nearby mud Tell me your name monk if you’d be so candid My name is ballad
