Poem
Highwire dancer in cautions step sets out to brave her highest ascent No net to break a possible fall Too far to see the journey's end she begs for courage to risk it all and choose the path which fate has lent All her life on the tightrope spent with each false move her balance kept No circus stage or crowd to cheer applause forsaken for doubtful stares so few and far in between are the high wires that lead to dreams Once across there's no way back some choices made are meant to last But oh the raw and biting fear to walk the wire through mist of tears If only she had wings to fly see the picture on the other side Will passion reign a burning flame or safe alone with peace to claim When standing at the wires edge one foot fearfully leaves the ledge In hopes the choice will see her through and live the life she wanted to Steady now thy heart that pounds looking forward never down clear the clutter clutching heart yesterday's gone, future's now And so in grace she leaps then lands to find her fear at once disband as if that leap had been the key to the passion she couldn't receive There it was across the wire fearful valley traveled through all the passion she desired born from trust they grew she knew She remembers all from the platform stood and all she left behind to seek the dream of dreams come true though broken, confused and blind Of those she loved but couldn't choose their bonds she couldn't unchain who wish for her to fill their shoes and walk the miles of pain Yet if she could make them know her heart meant no "cruel intent" she simply choose the likely road to a life she'd not repent Her life has been a circus of sorts she's been the ring master and clown the show on her shoulders and smiles by force fearing the high wire would tumble to the ground So if you see the dancer smile her fearful heart at peace because she left the life of wires happy in the life she needs Maybe you could find a way not to blame her for the cost on the chance you took to love her best she held no gift savant She will never forget and forever remember the loves that led to this happiness she prayed for years would come and without them would have missed For they helped her to define her need shine bright what mattered most she took her chances too, fatigued the pain which that evoked Still better to have loved and lost Then never known at all a love so deep in spite of cost leaving memories worthy of the fall
