Poem
On the skeleton of a sleeping goddess is my beloved Netherlands, Waters in her branches are curling my roots as a Dutchman And her gigantic heart seemed to born the beauties you may choose and take; Emerge the most notable of these marsh grasses and reeds From the wild animal life and what it is left. If you walk as a friend, you will find a friend Wherever you choose to stay and to fare Along the pathway of Amsterdam and Rotterdam, along the inner Edge of the coastal dunes including those houses that are mine Underneath you shall see Jan Vermeer and my lovely friend Vincent van Gogh! It dominates in all our souls and bones, the religious freedom of love and share, Which are the melodies played on streets and plazas flowing gently Through the breasts of my people, and there, the Frisian languages are friendly Moreover, its men and women are part of the sweet rain that with maple leaves Love creates such magic of greetings. Coming and going with me like a freely bird through the sky of Haarlem, Which Desiderius Erasmus and Baruch Spinoza shall welcome you along the sidewalk of Heaven lit by touches of human songs, you find yourself thinking Of the new river by the track that appeal a summer sound within your soul in pleasure; On the other hand, you just stand there in the canals of Amsterdam like a kiss of the Venice of the North watching riverboats and barges, and altogether we are going to laugh. As the tone of the street singing your spirit rises, and you shall Find me next to you happy, gazing at your eyes, as they are mine The flame of a satisfied person recognized my beloved Netherlands Is and shall be for anyone who wishes to faintly flowing what is belonging to freedom!
