Poem
So I asked my little Kublai with his big sad face Where are the doggy toys that once litter the place No chewy ball, no pull rope or bone of cloth No toy birds or animals how did so much get lost Kublai pointed his nose and glanced his eyes Toward the fury Genghis caught by surprise Genghis stretched his front legs and let out a yap Rolled on his back and purred like a cat Wagging his tail and licking Kublai face But nothing could make up for what had taken place Kublai growled and snapped at his little friend Genghis dived under the bed his tail following him Now Kublai be nice no fighting will resolve We need little Genghis for this mystery to solve So I bent down to get Ghengis from under my bed This is what I saw with covers over my head It looked like Noah's Ark had disembarked A hundred plastic eyes stare at me from the dark With flash light I begin to see Little fury faces staring back at me There were lions tigers and bears A raccoon who had lost his hair Squirrels and chipmunks a sock monkey or two Cats and rabbits and a toy dog of blue A tailless whale, a duck without his beak A mouse and a hedgehog who had chewed feet A elephant and donkey to be politically correct A horse with mange a giraffe with a sore neck There was a seal and rubber balls A wingless goose and a zebra I recall A headless clown, another mouse and armadillo With stuffing of white exposed from these fellows As I freed each toy into the light Kublai happily dance with delight After I removed the hippopotamus There hid Genghis who brought this upon us He crawled out from under his lair His head was down from shame and fear But I picked up the little growler and gave him a hug And Kublai licked his face without a grudge So now there is a legend within our home If ever it seems all the toys have roamed We know where to seek and free them Under the bed in Genghis's Kingdom.
