Poem
The wind it blew with rage Its ferocity knew no end Uprooting trees and throwing them about Causing even the strongest ones to bend Yet in the midst of catastrophe A tiny seedling stood Shielded by a rock nearby That provided it a sheltering hood The rock it did its utmost best To keep the youngling free from hurt It stood this way for a few months While the seedling grew in height and girth Now along with the plant grew a wild weed Which looked fairly beautiful But underneath the false façade Lay thorns that were meant to kill It took the support of the youngling And twined around it as it grew Slowly but steadily it was killing the plant Yet so cleverly that no other plant knew But then there was one who was watching The rock it knew what to do It prayed to the heavens and the earth To help split itself into two And so the clouds sent bolts of lightning Which struck the lowly rock The earth it shook and quaked that night And centered its fury on that spot When at last the painful deed was done The rock mustered up all its strength And with tears of sand and smaller stones It heaved and shook till one half of it fell And that half fell upon the evil weed Pulling it away from the young plant As it watched the weed release the youngling The rock smiled and breathed its last With one half it had crushed the weed And kept the youngling from being killed While the other half remained standing Still shielding the plant from the wind
