Poem
I hear the women crying, I hear the children scream I see the sun’s fiery rays, each and every glowing beam I feel the wind blowing and then my hair gets in my eyes I try and wipe my tears away as I silently say goodbye And up above is Jamie, as he stands upon the roof His clothes flailing in the wind, his eyes completely aloof He told me he’d be leaving. I didn’t think it would be this way If I would have seen it earlier, maybe he could have been saved Instead, I’m watching him above, starting to accept The fact that he can’t overcome the complete lack of respect His father told him he was worthless, his mother told him to die I curse them both for not being here now as their son stares into the sky The drugs that Jaime had turned to had helped him for some time But side effects also included Jaime losing his mind Jaime would cry and then he’d smile and then he’d lose his cool He’d tell the world he was enjoying life before getting in fights during school The principal said he would go nowhere, the kids said he was crazy The police said he was just a minor, the teachers said he was lazy And now together, we are all watching, begging him to take two steps back But Jaime has already signed his deal, he and death already made a pact In his eyes, I know he’s gone already. He isn’t nervous, anxious or scared I know that he can’t hear me, but I don’t really care “I’ll miss you with all my heart, my friend. Goodbye,” I choke as I call And just right cue, Jaime smiles, spreads his arms wide, and falls
