Poem
It was a cold night; reach for the pocket to stroke light Smoke exit his throat ‘til he choke on his own spite Rolled dice when he walked this concrete Felt blessed when he didn’t end up on the wrong street This day felt different; maybe shady Started out fine; met a dime, a beautiful lady Took her to a local bar, I forget the name Taken back; she was a scholar with a perfect frame Commence to conversation, they spoke knowledge, She's been through college, now buildin’ a foundation A female simplistic and very artistic Now they gettin’ in it and wordplay gettin’ vivid Thinkin’, “this one is special, she's so interestin’” Catching every word that passed her lips, always listenin’ Gleam in her eyes, he knows he found something real Used to be about what he sees; now it’s all in how he feels Used to be about what he sees; now it's all in how he feels ... Usually, here’s where he steals her heart, but she has trust issues 'Cuz the last one she trusted misused She said, “Within my soul exists you And I remember it every time I kiss you I miss you when I reminisce on what we been through." He blew one back, asked “Will this do?” Cold eyes pierce her like a pistol Shook her system deep down like a missle ... Back to the present, she says "This'll never work 'Cuz no offense, but you remind me of the forever hurt. And to go through it again? For what is it worth She turned, whispered, "There's nothing real left on this earth." This hit him in his gut, but he walked and followed 'Cuz when she turned around, he looked deep inside her and saw the sorrow He said "I wanna be here for you tomorrow Don't have to give me your whole heart now, just let me borrow I know how it feels, and I'll never leave you hollow Don't gotta believe me, but the past is something to swallow Time moves fast, Apollo, and it's obselete So girl, I'm glad you and me took the time to stop and speak And if our paths cross again, see ya soon." Penned her number on his palm, walked off in the light of the moon And there he stood on that cold night, flame ignited Choking on his own spite but his own life is what he's rewriting
