Poem
Where are the women of old, those who knew how to please God, Not with eloquent words or impressive deeds, But those who knew the real work was founded on bended knees, Because they knew it was going to take, not a religion, But a relationship with a Mighty God to be the hearts of their families, To cook those meals, to mend those clothes, to take care of the house, to be the spouse, And the extended arm of their communities. Where are the women, who could sing and moan those old spiritual hymns, Like “Amazing Grace” and “Shine On Me”, While cleaning those greens, and baking that macaroni and cheese, That would make you drop to your knees, and that chicken fried so crisp, Because it was mixed with these ingredients: Faith, Hope, and Love. “Precious Lord, Take My Hand” and “Guide Me Over Thy Great Jehovah”, While mending those socks, and patching those holes, and piecing quilt on top of quilt. Each stitch gently sown in: Faith, Hope, and Love. Where are those women who would cover their children in prayer, Every morning before sending them out the door, And would give praise and glory to their Heavenly Father for keeping them safe, As he led them end to the close of another day. And those women who would give to their husbands, their due benevolence, After the world beat him down, reminding him in this house he wore a priestly crown, And his heart was safe with her. Where are the women, I ask, who were the pillars of their communities, Teaching the young women how the be chaste and not busy bodies, Feeding the hunger, clothing the naked, and nursing the sick back to health, Doing it all in the strength of her Lord, pleading Jesus’ blood and righteousness. These women knew how to build their houses because they were wise. These women are hidden treasures and much to be desired. Where are the women of old, those who know how to please God, Not with eloquent words or impressive deeds, But those who know the real work is founded on bended knees, Because you know it was going to take, not a religion, But a relationship with a Mighty God to be the hearts of your families. To cook those meals, to mend those clothes, to take care of the house, to be the spouse, And the extended arm of your communities. To be the Proverbs 31 woman that God has called you to be. DMWade
