DOUBLETHINK Can’t Fool Mother Nature 1: THIS LIFE Newspeak, Doublethink, and other similar words only bedevil us. When trying to figure out what was said, George Orwell In his novel, “1984,” left us clues to solve such improper speech. For, we live with words, be they constantly updated to satisfy the altered meanings or newly purloined from a parallel universe. Some words give voice in the social/political arena. Others may have been crafted by lonely jailbirds with lots of time on their hands. Lewis Carroll’s “Alice In Wonderland” had one character, the march hare, complain about Alice’s not saying what she meant. For sure, we are living in a totally made-up world. One and all slavishly adopt the chic creations of newfound technology that requires newly created words. This being done without regard to how the technology poisons, and pollutes the environment, leaving others to clean up the messy plastic, scattered far and wide. 2: OUR NEXT LIFE But, hope is still with us. Ever-changing language can turn trashy phrases into treasures near and dear. After all, collectors love to restore gas-guzzling, environmentally-destroying vehicles of antique vintage. So, it may not be all that bad for our next life. Mother Nature is developing new and evolved bacteria to consume all those plastics, left discarded in landfills and ocean dumping grounds. Strange! There are no ever-lasting plastics found in archeology sites. Maybe plastic-eating bacteria will appear to evolve ways to clear the air. Then, Humans can continue in their efforts to develop new and entertaining venues of self-gratification. 3: HERE AND NOW Some have said that history repeats itself. Further, civilizations of humans have come and gone. Many have been wiped off the face of the Earth leaving relics and artifacts in diverse locations. What of new life forms appearing to clean from the trash heap that which was Left behind by the capitalistic but inventive new-think. Will we then have to abandon Earth? Do we take colonizing spacecraft to newly discovered pristine worlds? How about, we terraform Mars? Or, will Mother Earth continuously re-evolve humankind’s messes in the here and now. Or, will we give rise to new hope for a brand-spanking-new Earth? Perhaps Mother Nature will terraform Earth.
