Poem
His name was Roman Gregory Smite Merely five foot two in height, But what a brat this young boy was Who wanted everything because.... He’d scream and shout and kick if need ‘I want a bike made of gold’ he’d plead, ‘And don’t forget the wad of cash And stocks and shares before they crash!’. His room was stacked with high tech stuff This boy could never get enough! He ate too much, gorged on sweets A fatter boy you’d never meet. Then one night a man appeared With hood and boots and ginger beard. ‘I have the item of your dreams Only you can afford it seems’. ‘For it comes at a heavy price But I will not offer it twice!’ ‘What is it?’ asked the greedy kid, ‘It’s a money tree, so place your bid'. ‘A money tree, wow that’s unreal’ And to his greed it did appeal. ‘What do you want?’ ‘I want the lot!’ So, the kid gave him everything he’d got!! And so, with phone and laptop gone, And everything which did belong, In exchange for a pile of seeds Which produced nothing but a bunch of weeds. The boy had nothing to his name Could do nothing but hide in shame, And then the man with hood and beard Out of nowhere reappeared. ‘I hope you’ve learned your lesson well That upon riches you shouldn’t dwell, Belongings do not define your wealth Only family, friends and your good health'. He lowered the hood, peeled off the beard But this was not a man to fear, For the man who stood beside the lad Was none other than his doting Dad.
