Poem
The Collector reckons debtors' folly Aye, quicker than Hermes leaves to return Once violent dictator, rightful surely Now sequestered and fettered, so to mourn As to whether a feather could weather a tether A tether formed from the toughest of leather Much as wood could never weather metal Le debtor must pay with wage, grain et al Round around this big blue dream in its time For when man should deign to dim the vestal Day ends and night dawns, in time, all is mine La Muerte beckons the living fondly Ye, e'en more than Echo is taciturn All living alike regardless how motley To Hades who then would for those life would spurn Pull the clever lever of forever and ever For ever in a realm some have called nether To stop the once living from once again going fetal Hopes and dreams, all things placed on pedestals Wind-carried ash, a suphuric pantomime Of mysteries and fables, anecdotal Day ends and night dawns, in time, all is mine Still, time would cause a flower to wither Of the strata of the ether Of things banal, of things transcendental None may surpass the order parental May a man feast with evil, may he dine Unscathed to kick the bill, his foot, now moral? (sigh) Day ends and night dawn, in time, all is mine
