Trump's Now the President (how he got there) By Franklin Price 1/30/2019 Trump is now the President Not the cause but the effect Of Republicans and Democrats Refusing to connect He's not from either party Though Republicans have the claim I think he flipped a coin one day Called heads and got the name Looking back to '15 And the beginning of the run Trump not looked upon as serious Was just there to have some fun The debates among the elephants Brought his position to the light The others there just for themselves He was there to fight the fight The fight for all the people Who were riding on the bus He did not need the money He was there for only us Collectively they feared him Would remove their royal way Give power to the people Once again to have their say They smeared him and they bashed him He never gave in, not a bit Too soon it was all over Trump had risen from the pit He had won above all others Though not a hilltop man To the media, swamp and public Was just a flash within the pan Trump went out to the people And in each neighborhood Drew large crowds where'er he went And told them where he stood The people there were listening And liked the words they heard Were tired of politicians Was the Trump that they preferred With primaries said and done When November rolled around Democrats thought all was theirs Laughing, rolling on the ground The Democrats thought all was won Went for the highest vote Campaigned in the largest cities And the biggest states of note Were ahead two million votes At the ending of the day Then our founders' planning Came and got into the way The Electoral College there For the Presidential race The President's for all people That's why it was put in place Each State is to determine Per the Constitution's will One vote each, for all the congressmen, That are found upon the hill These votes provide some semblance Of equal rights for all the States So none inconsequential, Not the smalls and not the greats Executive Branch is different It's the only one for all To protect us and preserve us As we rise and as we fall Each one who sits in Congress Represents only their state The Constitution says it It isn't up for a debate They declare their Federal wants and needs And present them as a bill To all the other Congressmen Who reside there on the hill When the majority in Congress Think a State's ideas are fine They're sent on to the President, For the people, then to sign. When the President agrees, That we all lose less than win They're signed into new laws For all the women and the men Trump made many promises When he was running for the seat More jobs and better wages To provide us more to eat Tax cuts that would help us Or at least not make us cry Bring manufacturing back again Grow our economy or try Curb illegal immigration Keep the gangs and bad guys out Welcome those who come to grow with us. That's what this country is about In the two years gone by Since Trump became the Pres He's making his best efforts To do what he said and says Republicans have come aboard Because it's the party way Democrats are worse than Trump Is what the party has to say Would have preferred another Must support the man they got Even though they don't agree With the way he stirs the pot Just can't keep his mouth shut When he's under an attack He's still part of the party They can't stab him in the back It's very much confusing Just how politicians think Their self indulgent, uncaring ways, Will drive us all to drink There's so much more that I could say I believe you see that's clear I'm disappointed in what's happening To this country I hold dear.
