Rossetti (Dante Gabriel), poet and painter, b. of Italian parents, London, 12 May, 1828. Educated at King’s College, he became a student at the Royal Academy and joined the pre-Raphaelites. As a poet artist he exhibited the richest [284]gifts of originality, earnestness, and splendour of expression. Died at Westgate on Sea, 9 April, 1882.
