Low Tide
Low Tide
The moon continues her cycle
Around our earthly sphere
And with gravity she pulls
At the waters deep and clear
The planet keeps on spinning
And the land moves either side
Of the manipulated water
And the beach receives its tide.
The water now is distant
And the seabed is on view
Low tide for short hours
Before it’s hidden by

Low Tide Browns Bay
Old mooring pylon
with shag aloft,
wings flapping.
Fitness freaks with dogs
jog the shore -
one woman in particular,
her thighs slapping.
An old heron and I
are amused -
we fly away,
both of us clapping.

Low Tide
Low tide
The tide slips out
and the sand becomes part of time
Sifting moments into memories
scattered along a shore
of neglected feelings,

Low Tide
Low Tide
Act 1: Sand
I remember

Honey-stained Paspalum
Basking in slivers of bleached sun
Leaping across the sails of a thousand ships

Low Tide
Orange brushstrokes on the horizon bleed into the red of the setting sun
The indigo sea silently extinguishes the crimson sun for another day
The tide out to its peak, the sand warm beneath our feet, fingers entwined
Our silence comfortable, our touch speaking for us, two hearts combined
The water gently laps the sand as we stand together
