Clipper Poems

Horatio Nelson 1758-1805

Years ago I did so choose, to go on a Caribbean clipper ship cruise,
and, in addition to several other islands,
anchored off Nevis, northwest of Saint Kitts,
where, in the late 1780's, Nelson had lived,
and still bears traces of his presence today,
in various parts, pieces and bits.
When our windjammer Skipper informed us,
'Shopping here's good, snorkeling is bad,'
I

Premium MemberThe Whale and the Clipper

A blue whale spied a Yankee clipper.
First, he used his tail to flip her.
He gulped her whole, and feeling chipper,
he closed his mouth with a zipper.

Premium MemberI Got a Stupid Clipper Ship

I inherited a worn out clipper which made me mad.
For the rest of the cousins got riches, big and bad.
One got emeralds, another got diamond rings.
I got a clipper ship, without the pirate loot of kings.

Give it a whirl around the cape, my faerie godfather said.
He is a crazy old coot, eccentric, not quite right

Premium MemberA Clipper Ship For My Birthday Please

A clipper ship for my birthday please.
I shall enjoy the spray of the ocean breeze.
I may groan and snarl and cough and wheeze.
It would be wonderful, so please do not tease.

Just a second, I need some space to sneeze.
Want to travel with me beyond these trees?
I do not mean to be an arrogant sleaze
But a

China Clipper

Listen and you can hear the wind whisper
the name of a lost ship and its skipper.
The wind’s name is Favonius, winged god
His sotto voce is but a whimper.

Gentle breeze doth tell of China Clipper
Bound back toward London by English shipper
Lost from sight ten days out of Adelaide
for all those involved a real

Ode To the Husky Clipper

At 12:00
High-Noon
The train
Left New York
For the
Coast

Inside,
Echoed
A warning
From a shell
High dry
And remote

In the boxcar ….

“I’ll be back
In the spring
For rebuttal
When the lead
You have now
Is worn thin

“I’ll be back
for one run
Up the Hudson
With new oars
Pulling deep
From within”

(Villanova Pennsylvania: July, 2016)

Star Clipper Saturdays

I think in curls that bounce in the near-Spring sunlight
and brown eyes that burn with a wisdom expanding years unknown to me.
Brave face.
Shrug it off.
This flush of red sells me out
When lips meet flesh and soft words meet eardrums.
My knees no longer exist.
My mind no longer exists.
I'll hold on to this obsession til the sun

Coupons--Let the Clipper Beware

Coupons—Let the Clipper Beware

By Elton Camp

For those who don’t know how to shop
Cutting out coupons perhaps should stop

Some clipper will shout in utter dismay
“How can such foolishness you dare say?”

“By using coupons, I get items at little cost
And now you suggest that my effort is lost!”

Yet, a waste of time and money they can be
And

Clipper Ships

Clipper Ships

My mother; she wasn’t there any more
Burned away in chemo radiology
Therapy for the incurable
As she lingered for a year
Lobotomized by cancer

But in her dreams she sailed her clipper ships
Sailed away on the mighty Cutty Sark
Indomitable spirit she was
Swayed by the poetry of canvas sails
A sea gull riding to the rigging

Until the coma took her
And
