WATCHING FLICKERING FLAMES-TSF

amber
beacon
flickers,
offers
comfort
and hope,
time roams.

I watch
flames leap
candle
takes me
back in
time to
my home.

I hear
echoes, 
voices
from past
from those
long since
deceased. 

I smell
mother,
her scent
wafting
through time’s 
boundless 
retreat.

FLICKERING CANDLES

the flickering candle
stands alone on the table,
a small sentinel of warmth,
its golden glow spilling over its edges.

the air thickens around it;
within its amber light
time slows,
each shadow a memory.

this flickering beacon,
this symbol of hope,
speaks in the language of light
and remembrance.

the flickering candle takes me back in time,
reminding me of evenings spent in laughter,
of the scent

Corner - I love you, mother

Mother: a wax crayon candle in a starless room
You have many layers, like an onion
And you're coloured, but not green
So a wax-crayon candle is favoured here.
Much more poetic.

Although I bathe in the dark
You sit in my corner
Flickering                  

Unlit Candles

We bide our time upon the cusp
Twixt what may be and surely must
From evenings hush till morning hours
Begging chase through moon lit bowers
Where gleans the will in blissful trance
And leads the way in halting dance
To just beyond what grasp may reach
Where barely recalled memories teach
Tween what is now and might have been
To tease the eye

They shone daring green avocado 
in dark adverse period swearing 
guilt ridden heart vanquished free
sacral scrubbed pink and ready
plumed serpent in magnificent bloom

with candles God watched supreme
from blue misty mountain clean
knowing Artist was not insane
two green irises unusually plain
pierced her luminous spine divine

YOU HAVE FORGOTTEN

The house on the corner with the white swing
Candles, wine and dreams
The darkness that loneliness brings
To forgotten mountains
You no longer recall any of it
We once wrote letters to strangers
Pretending they were our friends
But now we leave the candle unlit
Because somehow it no longer matters
I'll be leaving soon
Too quickly to fit in a goodbye
You'll be angry

DAILY GRATITUDE CANDLES

Today I’m grateful for the light I hold in my hand 
when the darkness of the world becomes increasingly hard to handle

Because as St. Francis of Assisi said:

All the darkness in the world
cannot extinguish the light of a single candle’

Rose Scented Candles And So Much More

Rose scented candles burning softly through the night 
aurora rays of holy fanning, beauteous returns
Emerald dreams give birth to dessert moon's ignite   
if life unfolds before you, meditate, discern ... 

Ethereal reveries of flowers flushed in gold 
pick a petal, sing a song, dance to hearts delight  
Heaven waits for angels just

Betting on the Candles

We light our candles every night
And then we place a bet
On which will be the last to fade;
We’ve not forgotten yet.

This game goes back to childhood
When my brothers made their picks.
Then when I became a mother,
My two kids were in the mix.

Today, it’s just my husband
And myself who get to choose,
Yet we pay real close

Orange

Orange is the color of  leaves as they fall during fall

Orange is the color of autumn. 

Orange is the color of pumpkins on a cool night.

Orange is the taste of orange chicken at the chinese buffet. 

Orange is the sound of pumpkin spice candles being sparked. 
Orange is the sound of the loran on

THE ELF AND THE CANDLES

In the bookstore we usually wait until after Thanksgiving to put up our Christmas decorations 
(Thanksgiving being a holiday we don’t want to forget).
but this year we decided to decorate early…figuring
we need all the Christmas we can get.

Which means our decorations are up…and two of them are specifically worth noting…

Hello Autumn

A flame flickers,
toying and teasing
some jazz in the background.

Like stealth on tiptoe,
the darkness settles in
as the tables await couples.

Night descends upon 
come-hither invitations
and your future awaits.
