Slow Down, Little Sailor Man

Slow down, little sailor man, it’s time to set sail For a land where you can ride on moonbeams Soar through the clouds and hold a dragon by its tail. Slow down, little sailor man, it’s time for sweet dreams About fairylands and magical journeys, and other things All too fantastic, too marvelous for daytime, it seems. Slow down, little sailor man, adventures tomorrow brings When you’ll be wide awake and bright as you can be Tomorrow, when the sun comes out and the red robin sings. Slow down, little sailor man, I can tell you are sleepy So close your eyes and drift away to a dreamland now Where everything is beautiful and, well, simply dandy. Tomorrow, you and I will have another fine powwow.

You can rename me Little Sailor Man now " ride on moonbeams Soar through the clouds and hold a dragon by its tail." - I love this adventure!

I loved taking it myself, Caren. I really enjoy composing these from time to time, and I hope someone reads them to their children. That makes them all worthwhile.

Every now and then I write something for children. Eve Roper has been very receptive of my efforts. It brings back memories of when my children were little.

Milt, I'm fascinated by stories, rhymes and lullabies we read and sing to children. At what point does the world of childhood change from being a beautiful world where anything is possible to the real world? You've captured beautiful naivety in your Terza Rima. Cheers - Gary

Thanks Mr. Hankins .Winken, blinken, and nod one night sailed Off in a wooden shoe.Sang this Lullaby to my two children. They must have felt they had exclusive rights as became angry when hearing me sing it to their little cousin.Your poem reminded me of the song,my children as babies, and the green eyed monster jealousy they inherited from both parents. Thanks again.
