Self-Existent Light

God knows I’ve tried To put it out Doused it, stepped on it Locked it in a dark place Denied its shadow Surrounded it With mirrors To blind its “self”. And yet it shines Screaming Through the cracks Of a timeless tomb Whispering in the silence Of denial’s din And still I flee The essence of This “self-existent light” ©5/28/2023 Self-existent light Poetry contest Unseeking Seeker - sponsor

Thought provoking poem John...."And yet it shines screaming through the cracks" great, muscular use of language. Can feel a deep connection lurking there in the unspoken, holding the reader's attention. Do like this one....

Oh John, you're an inspiration whether you like it or not. Some might say you have a God given gift x

Leave it to you to put a twist on a light that most people feel the need to have shine upon them. Going to such lengths, even after death to be rid of it? Now, I'm left wondering, "What seed inside this mind has withered? Not yours, John. You know I'm searching for a metaphor. ;-)
