Niagara Falls Welcoming Demise For Those Seeking Suicide

Niagara Falls has been a Welcoming Demise for centuries. It started with thrill seekers going over the falls in a Barrel, bringing notoriety to those that survived the feat. They even have a museum there showcasing these daring life risking foolish folks. Sadly there have been over five thousand suicides that they can confirm. They estimate about twenty-five people each year choose this means of ending their lives. Niagara Falls can be a joyous place to be. Enjoying the picturesque lovely variations of Water Falls there. Many tourist go there and enjoy its scenic beauty and are amazed of its roar and power. Sadly the beauty and raging waters have a surreal magnetic affect on those suffering from mental illness, depression, and non coping abilities. They choose this daring ride on its powerful current to end their lives. There are many videos on You Tube that show these desperate, depressed dark souls floating in the current, going over the precipice ending their God given life. Just days ago there was a thirty-three year old mother named Chianti and her son Roman who was nine years old and her five month old daughter Mecca, who sadly perished at the Hands of Niagara Falls and their mother. This one event gripped my heart. I will attempt to write how I felt in rhyme form about this Mom and her precious son and five month old daughter. I can't imagine Chianti, what happened in your life? You couldn't ask for help from others, is there a reason, why? The darkness you felt inside, and the struggles you went through. Had dire consequences, because your actions did so prove. Seeing you there at the Rivers edge when you started to lunge. Your loss of hope, and desperation, came true when you jumped. Heartache and pain were caused, with the decision that you made. Chianti, Roman and Mecca, were the one's you betrayed. Depression can manifest in anyone. Whether it is loosing someone you love or dealing with a bully, or just life in general. If you know of someone that needs help or maybe yourself. There is a a number to reach the Suicide Crisis Lifeline 988 also the National Suicide Prevention Life Line 800-273-8255 Tom Cunningham made a WOW comment!! His comment was, " It's an invisible illness that nobody sees until it's too late." This is so true. In other words be on high Alert of others because like Tom stated above, it is an invisible illness. Love Tom's important statement. Great feedback... Thank You Michael Tor

Well. Perhaps that's why it's 'Niagara Falls' and not 'Niagara Rises.' Just sayin' ~ Gershon

It is Andrea. Lost love can manifest a darkness so vile it doesn't allow you to get over the pain, so you end the pain by ending your life, and in this horrible case her children. Hugs...

Not being a therapist, i don’t dabble in psychanalyzing people. I tjink your posting the Suicide Hotline Number was a true contribbtion to this site, thank you for doing that. I actually talked a friend out of jumping out a three st I knew 4 other friends who offed themselves. I trust people more who tell the truth, the ones I lost, never shared a sad thought. I like open people. People who are alwayss happy or ha ha Ha have other agendas at work. Thanks Michael Pangie

Hi Pangie. We all can lend a sympathetic ear to all those in trouble. Just like you did when you talked a friend out of jumping out of a tree. They are alive because you cared. That is a wonderful ending thanks to you Pangie great uplifting story.Thank you so much for sharing...

It is shocking that so many do this. Niagara Falls is so beautiful that it is difficult to imagine that it can kill people. Maybe it's beauty makes it easier. Thank you for caring and writing.

Breaking News. I googled Chianti, Roman, and Mecca suicide at Niagara Falls and the New York post had a video of Chianti. She made a post under a different name. Wanting people to leave her alone. What was shared that Her boyfriend was neglecting her in their relationship and he should take more responsibility by appreciating her. So now we know it was a broken heart that he caused her that resulted in this Tragedy. Lost of Love can invoke so much pain that death for some is the answer. So sad.

And sometimes there seems to be no stopping it, such was the case of my nephew who died 3 years ago on Halloween morning (mourning). He was just determined to go. I think some get tired of having to tell the whole story again and again. We can help sometimes and for those we try. Good write. Sad about the falls. I was born close to there.

Interesting, sad, tragic and gruesome. I guess they knew there was no coming back and perhaps it felt a bit romantic to them (who knows). My husband’s step-uncle drove his car off a cliff. Yup some really mean it, sadly.

I recently found out that there are many that do it at night where it is more difficult to realize. There was information that they shut the falls down by diverting the water. What they found and saw at the bottom of the falls where there are broken up rocks and boulders when they shut the current down and there was no water falling. The men and women who were investigating the bottom portion closest to the falls found dozens of skeletal remains. A tragic discovery... Thank you Kim for your input blessings your way...

Kim Im so sorry about your loss of your Nephew. Yes sometimes a determined will to commit suicide succeeds and there is no stopping it, in worse case scenarios. I think there should be some kind of hope in us to at least attempt to help those that have reached their decision to move forward. Sadly it happens there they say twenty five times a year.

Hi Evelyn yes they suffer in silence and we don't even know. I think no one thinks they should bother anyone else with their problems. I saw the news with this tragedy and it shocked me to the core. Life is a gift and when someone feels it's not that is a sad situation for that individual. Thank you Evelyn for your valued comment and support. God bless you Dear. Love your Poetry it always is so uplifting.

Hello Michael, Wow, your exploration of Niagara Falls as both a place of beauty and tragedy is deeply moving. Oh, the complexities of human suffering and the importance of mental health awareness is critical and as a counselor I see it every day. "Depression is a silent storm that rages within, obscuring the beauty of life's landscape, yet even in its darkness, there remains a flicker of hope waiting to be rekindled." Autumn Blessings, My Friend, Daniel

Daniel like Tom's comment you have added more realization and awareness in your comment. Another exceptional comment from a man with experience in the field as a counselor. Daniel with your knowledge and experience I hope you do a Free Verse or Narrative on your experiences in helping those that suffer with depression. I would really look forward to reading what you have to say. Please consider it. Your in depth knowledge by sharing could save a less fortunate souls life by detecting and suggesting medical mental help. Loved your comment Daniel, you like Tom are part of the solution. God bless you...

Thank you Joseph. I saw the news and this event of Chianti shook my inner core when it was shared that there was a nine year old and a five month old that tragically lost their lives because of an unstable mother. I like you and all that participated here in the comments wanted to do something to limit the acts of suicide to zero by sharing any information that might help. Tom and Daniel, you and Valsa, Charlie, and Jan have added to this cause. Thank you Joseph for your much appreciated view. God bless you my friend...

Such a gripping tale of depression and suicide. I feel deeply for those who suffer from depression. The woman who ended her life with the three children must have acted on an impulse. Had someone intervened and given her hope, perhaps the three buds nipped in bud could have blossomed into fragrant flowers. I have been to Niagra falls three times, but never knew it was a suicide point. Touching narration, dear Michael.

Thank you Valsa it was like you say gripping to watch this event on the news brought so much heartache to what I learned. I felt I had to do my part in sharing and making people aware so this tragedy never happens again. At least I know I did my part to making aware of depression and where you can get help if you are suffering from it. Sometimes like Tom and Daniel, and Joseph say you do not know, it is invisible until they choose to take their life. I am sure all of us know someone or of someone that have taken their life and we were surprised because the person hid it so well.

Great write, Michael. Tom is exactly right too...one of my best friends ended his life with a bullet to his head. No one would have ever expected it from him because he was like a Robin Williams type character. Always a jokester, kind and caring. You just never know. Sad. Thanks also for your recent visits, my friend. Good to hear from you...stay well. Charlie

Hi Charlie. So sorry to hear about your friend. I too had a friend. Days before we were riding dirt bikes on the trails. My friend Guy was quiet and intelligent and was a caring person. I will never forget when two days later while riding the school bus the news broke out he had put a gun to his mouth and had committed suicide. I was taken aback and like Tom said, "It's an invisible illness that no one sees until it's too late."

I am tearing up at this tragic event, depression can be a 'silent killer' and I know cases of suicide have risen especially since covid lock down and many suffering long term mental health issues. I am glad you wrote of organisations that can help but i agree with Tom many are either too proud or too scared to seek advice which results in tragic consequences like these. hugs Jan xx

Jan it was a tragic event. I can't imagine what this mother was going through that she had to push her children to their deaths. I agree with Tom's assessment that you shared pride and too scared from the ridicule prevents some to not seek help. When I first learned of the news I started doing research and found out over five thousand souls have floated down Niagara Falls to their death, averaging 25 deaths a year. Unbelievable. Hugs back...

So sad Michael, a terrible waste of life, it's an invisible illness that nobody sees until it's too late. They just can't see a way out of the dark abyss. They're often too proud to seek help. Tom

Of course not Michael, feel free to use it, hopefully folks may see things in a different light. When people are at a low ebb they're told pull yourself together, snap out of it, I can tell you these things don't work and can make them feel even worse.

Tom you stated something that we all know but do not dissect in our minds. That is, "It's an invisible illness that nobody sees until it's too late." Tom if you don't mind I am going to quote this powerful truth of yours. Wow, your words are so true. If I may I will put your quote in this Free verse Rhyme Poem. I think your quote says it all and we should be vigilant enough to focus and recognize this invisible illness before it takes hold and destroys, one's life. Your impute Tom really impressed me. Thank you for sharing my friend...
