Life Is a Merry Go Round

lying in the stroller waiting for a push
then we go round the mulberry bush
saddling up the rocking horse
getting our jeans all dirty of course!
day one on the bus going to school
Provokingly they may slap me the rule
making the grade to step up to the plate
falling in love with a lovely mate.
in lovers lane after the prom
off to college living in a dorm
Studying till three is often the case
no way to ease up this pace.
graduation is just weeks ahead
will life then be a flower bed?
sprouting family and kids at camp
bills to pay and more cents for a stamp
loved my job, made vice president
now living in a place for a senior resident.
Medicare sends me the amounts they paid
doctors crying about what they made
have a list of ailments in my ripe old age
wonder what’s left in my old time gauge
rest home or care takers will definitely be needed
it’s been a long life, now the road is bumpy I conceded
walks in the garden with cane at my side
Reminiscing my joys that gave me pride
no agility getting into my wheelchair
I wheeze and groan and almost out of air
now starring back at the mulberry bush
I feel I’m back in the stroller waiting for a push.
Ah yes….. life is a merry go round

G'day Douglas … oh so true. I don't think too many in their middle age realize what they witness in a pram could be them in the future. There is no way off the merry-go-round as you describe so well - Lindsay
