I remember when my father was in his early nineties
And I had taken him out
to buy a few things he liked for snacks
When he saw a man walking down the street
This man had to be at least ten years
younger than my father
Daddy said, " Look at that old man walking straddle legged."
He continued, "When they walk like that,
They've got one foot in the grave,
the other one on a banana peel."
I asked daddy, "Do you know that man"?
Daddy said, "No, I have never met him".
Our conversation ended with that,
but I put it in my memory of things he said.
Daddy never walked straddled legged.
His mind was clear.
At age 96, 11 months, and two weeks he still seemed healthy.
His life and constant giving will never be on TV.
His love only remembered by a few who have slowly left this earth
He and mother loved each other
Despite the fact they had disagreements
They shared what they had with others who were in need
They had a lifelong love that kept on giving
