Kettle, Pond, Lake
Fish and Cornbread for Dinner
Ma Kettle tired from housework, disheveled gray hair,
dressed in her long pioneer floral cotton dress,
black boots, sauntered to her garden as she always did,
same place, same time of the day, every day,
and sat on a bench nestled near a pond
taking a rest with a jar of moonshine.
She watched the bright orange colored koi
swim around and it gave her a hankering to go fishing.
She got her straw hat and fishing pole and drove to the lake.
Her moonshine in hand, three fish in the pan,
and cornbread in the iron kettle for dinner.
