I walk in the shadow

I shore up my doubt, behind a loosely bound hope Which in turn is propped up without foundation Cynical of a life, at the mercy of luck Collateral damage feeds my reservation I shore my up tomorrow with what I see today Without conspiracy or investigation I place trust in all that’s completely unfettered For fear, I’m left to this present resignation I shore up my life with whatever came before Not hindsight or academic education The oblivion traversed until I was born Strings along primal echoes of information I shore up my conscious with bliss and ignorance Interspersed with indifference on occasion It’s not I don’t care about suffering and death Rather, I’m desensitised by their pervasion I shore up my denial with an open mind Which is nothing except raw interpretation This planet spins correctly, even though tilted Not by wishful thinking, but strange gravitation I shore up my boredom, trying to fall asleep When really tired, will attempt hibernation Anything to forget this human condition After remembering, I’m long past salvation I shore up my heaven, by creating a hell Balance looks more appealing, in an equation Gaze upon purgatory, and share what I see Not because I’m kind, it’s more my destination I shore up my poem by claiming it’s my own But in truth, it’s an open collaboration I conspire with the musings of all that’s unclear They dwell inside me, in flawless aberration - - - - - - - better to face hell alone ~ than bring the whole world along for the ride said the moon eclipsing the sun ~ who replied son I’m right behind you By David Kavanagh

It's your nature, David. I'd rather drag others into hell with, "misery loves company" a hallava good time we will. Seriously, on the verge of the eve of our self-destruction, is life. Your words are stark and uncompromising gives one pause, but such a delightful Monoku, I really enjoyed. Cheers to that! I'll join DD and fave

Heya Anaya, thanks so much for kind comments and I’m delighted with your Fave too! I think/know this poem reflects my true nature, unflinching and uncompromising even in the face of Armageddon, lol! the monoku was an afterthought, I couldn’t let the inexorable eclipse go unnoticed, to me they are more than a cosmological coincidence, and have real hidden significance, Cheers David

Social media makes sure you're desensitised to all that's happening in the world. You can see why we're all zombies now. Could we go a month without technology? I wonder.

Social media is part of us all now for better or worse, but trust me I’ve seen so much going on around me, even at a local level to become desensitised, it’s probably a coping mechanism, so whatever works for the individual I guess, cheers David

Great rhyme for a difficult subject. Life is too complex and mysterious. I never delve into what I cannot understand for God is too immense for our tiny mind. I accept His will. Hope is my horizon.

I suppose that’s how our paths diverge Victor, I try understand the complex and mysterious, I’m built to question everything, hence why I’m agnostic, this one is all from my pov, thanks so much for stopping by, cheers David

Dear David, l love how your poem delves into the complexities of existence with raw honesty and profound introspection. The imagery reflects the struggle between doubt and hope, cynicism and trust, fear and resignation. Each stanza unveils a facet of the human experience, from grappling with ignorance and desensitization to seeking balance amidst chaos. I loved how your words are filled with a poignant truth, of the inherent contradictions and uncertainties we face. This is a thought-provoking journey through the shadows of life. Blessings, Daniel

Heya Daniel, I kinda put a broad spectrum of the human condition into this one, from my pov of course, every so often I try take stock of consciousness, existentialism, and the big questions that some would rather steer clear of, (and who can blame them) I know as a psychologist you tackle a lot of this stuff in your line of work, and am delighted you read it with deep understanding and acceptance of it being what it is, of course I haven’t given up on life, and believe more answers can and will be found which in turn may hopefully shed some light on life’s dark shadows, cheers David

You convey a beautiful person through your words David, indisputably so. I'm going to fave this. I'd say more but your poem completely speaks for itself and I see nothing within those words that I don't respect.

A Fave and a wonderful comment from Dilly Dally, thank you so much, I am delighted you see the true nature of this one as seen from my pov, I simply wanted to be honest with myself and accept how I feel, respect right back at you, cheers David

I believe we are capable of a lot more, it's often said we're not firing on all cylinders, maybe it's a deep fear of the unknown. Brilliant writing David, Tom

Thanks so much Tom, I appreciate you stopping by to comment on this difficult piece, I’m sure we are capable of so much more, if history stops repeating itself, this one is based purely on evidence, it’s hard to see the world changing anytime soon, but hey it’s only written from my pov, cheers David

A rhyming poem, nearly monorhyme about shoring up so many things in life. But like the tide, our opinion changes, life's circumstances change, so we must not tether to tightly to avoid high and low tides. Don't go down with the ship, Captain, and never walk in shadows. Loved that you added monoku.

Indeed I plan on seeing it out til the end, with or without hope, there are so many unknown variables and phenomena that cannot be explained by humans at the moment, so to me the game of life is far from played out or over

I'm not sure it's wise to accept everything at face value. Holding on to hope is difficult, but without it what do we do? I refuse to get into a fetal position and close my eyes, or stick my head in the sand. One day at a time gives us no promise of another tomorrow, but it's better than any alternative I've found.

Heya Lin I think when I accept everything at face value, the big picture is pretty dark with a looming shadow, although you probably wouldn’t guess from this one, I do hold onto innate hope, but it’s a constant battle to shore it up with tangible credible evidence, the monoku came as an afterthought, with the great American eclipse almost upon us, thanks so much for your encouraging words, cheers David
