Cloudless / Wolkenlos

Over the desert,
lingers cloudless
an empty sky,
purposeful,
scorching,
withers the sun the sands.

Unreal the colours,
from blue to cream,
where shadows play
and sun-rays
paint their solid pictures.

I am crossing the dunes,
breathless,
like a last traveler,
with an uncertain future,
fearless
and without haste.

At the horizon
a fatamorgana,
a dark hull,
white flying sails,
spread into endless sands,
melting away
in a vibrating heat.

A permanent up and down,
ridges,
blown away with the breeze,
valleys of dunes,
portrayed by the winds,
firm views,
far up to the horizon.

Like dreams of fire and sand,
petrified in the evening light,
red-hot.
And only the wind scatters
the muffled sound
of my steps.

----------------------------------

Über der Wüste,
liegt wolkenlos
ein leerer Himmel,
mit Bedacht,
alles vesengend,
dörrt die Sonne den Sand.

Unwirkliche Farben,
von blau bis hellgelb,
wo Schatten spielen
und Sonnenstrahlen
malen sie ihr kräftiges Bild.

I wandere über die Dünen,
atemlos,
wie ein letzter Wanderer
mit ungewisser Zukunft ,
furchtlos
und ohne Hast.

Am Horizont
eine Fatamorgana,
ein dunkler Rumpf,
und weiße Segel
breiten sich aus im endlosen Sand,
vergehen
in der zitternden Hitze.

Ein wiederkehrendes Auf und Ab,
Gräben,
hinweggeblasen mit dem Wind,
Täler und Dünen,
vom Winde gemalt,
im festen Blick
bis weithin zum Horizont.

Wie Träume von Feuer und Sand,
erstarrt im Abendlicht,
rot und heiß.
Und nur der Wind zerstreut
meine gedämpften Schritte.

Very thought-provoking poem, Gert. Can't help but think of the last man on earth journeying through a barren world. Reading your poem was like watching a very good movie! Love, Carolyn

Very dreamy Gert, I love the empty skies at time,, especially when they have nothing but drift in it. I once saw a sky like the one you describe in the desert. I found it lovely, I guess you can say I have odd taste in beauty. I enjoyed your poem very much Gert, have yourself a wonderful day,..p..d.
