As a Storm Rages Past

As a Storm Rages Past Rabble rouser, a spring storm lets out a golden shaft that pierces through the sky and with a loud clash, rousing me from peaceful slumber, shatters the night. The house heaves and sighs a powerless response but I fear no storm, dread no tempest, and defiant I clamor inside: ‘Let my heart sleep storm, sad flames you will no longer stoke!’ Nothing though will still the unsettling rumble that thunders now deep within the cavern of my mind for a ghost I clasp and tuneless it sings of love. But then I hear music’s many strings pulling at my heart that rejoices knowing it may no longer fly high on the wings of love but it will drink from melodies that peace and joy bring. So scat storm! Your time is done! And I hear its low rumble as it gently growls away.<>

What a wonderful way you have of describing a raging storm Anne-Marie, and I was so relieved that it went along on its merry way. Storms are not my favourite thing, you nearly had me hiding under the bed. A Super Rumbling 7. Maria

Thank you so much for your comments Maria. It is storm season here in Missouri and, as long as the tornadoes stay away, I can make my peace with the storms.

Beautifully written Anne-Marie. I'm fascinated by storms, especially those of the heart. Without them I would have little to write about. (Used to know a lovely lady named Anne, with an e, from MO) many years ago.

Thank you for these wonderful comments James. Storms have indeed a way of stirring things in us. I used to live in Joplin a long time ago, and as you probably know they had a devastating tornado in 2011; I still 'like' storms but I'm now very leery of what they may bring in their wake.

the poem made me feel fear and then threats to my person - reaching strength little by little - then getting it...

Verlecia, thank you for describing the feelings that came upon you. I think that when we beat the storms of life, there may be some unforgettable residual damage, but there may also come a deep undying strength and if we can throw humor in the blend, we move forward steadier in our step.

Thank you for your delightful comment Solomon. Storms, just for a moment, may have the power to dispel the dust that seals men's eyes.

Great description of the passing storm, and I love where you went with it. Love the phrase "growls away". It sure was stormy lately.

Thanks Agnes; I love the feel and sounds of storms, it's the devastation they can leave behind at times that tempers my attraction.

I could just see that happening Anne-Marie, I saw it as a sort of funny horror movie before me :) Oh I understand the other layers there too, but that image still lingers....

Actually Darren, what was 'funny' was that I was wide awake due to the storm, battling a computer, trying to put a music video together - a lengthy process that has me beat right now; but I haven't said my last word:)

Thank you Tim for your generous review; I'm really glad you liked this one so much. The storm was incredibly loud and tenacious, so I decided to write poetry into the night:)

Morning Anne-Marie. Yes, may the rumble and storm end for the true storm itself and the storm of life as well. Wonderful expression as always. Have a wonderful day. Well done in its entirety.

Thank you so much my dear friend for your kind comments. The storm of life hasn't rumbled in quite some time now, but when it did it was quite deafening:)

Such a wonderful description of a storm the passes in the night. It comes in loud and angry and leaves with a whimper when it finds it no longer has the affect on those sleeping it had wished. Really cool Anne Marie.

Thank you so much Chris. We've been plagued by continuous rain and stormy weather, so it was bound to leave its mark.
