Tell Me

My soul is adhered to an old generation
when life was predictable
and we were somewhere else
and we all had a God
because we all had money
the demons of reality lay dormant
just waiting
there still remained the taste of mystery
as to what destiny would befall us
Oh, to cling to the past is futile
go forward where new beauties
await you
you have nothing to lose
but your heart and soul
and the truth as you knew it
The realist will survive
to play the game to win
and there will be Sin
as we really know it
and what it has to offer
in a world fraught
with anger, death and greed
money has become God
and the gilded age is revived
coating gold over
famine, decay and need
I did not plan my greed too well
as time passed by I lost my faith
I live in a world
I don't understand
My soul is adhered to an old generation
when life was predictable
and we were somewhere else

Ralph, a wonderful response for the tell me contest, one line struck me deeply . . money has become God . . . that is so true in this generation, best of luck in the contest with this well done 7, and thanks for visiting my poem, blossoms

Your words enter my mind resonate there and force me to feel their weight. Life is an illusion created with the smoke and mirror that emotions conjure and promote. Emile.

Times change, people change, only God does not change. A contemplative, pensive write. Love this one. :) Kim

Me too Ralph I don't understand this generation either. There is so much aggression now with folk too. I enjoyed your poem, my friend
