But the Apostle here speaks from God
to put on the new self by His Spirit
without God's help, it can't be done
by His Holy Spirit's action within a minute
Christ comes and dwells within
to work in our hearts by His grace
providing His imputed righteousness
so this new creation portrays His face
As well as this greatest of gifts
Christ also brings His holiness
revealing His Father as three times holy
fills one with eternal timelessness
Christ is the architect of this gift
marking HIs image within His creation
now able to say righteousness and holy
knowing Christ in His heavenly nation
Revelation has begun

Edwards spoke with depth and meaning
showing God was sovereign in everything
especially in His book 'Religious Affections'
this was pure gold in my heart to bring
My other mentor was John Calvin, no less
this Frenchman's sermons are so profound
how he stood for God's truth no matter the cost
his election doctrine was so truly sound
So many times when doubts assailed me
it was God's assurance through Calvin's pen
that lifted me and kept me in line
his Institutes always my doctrinal gem
For whatever years God leaves me with
these mentors will always be my guides
for these teachings are truly of God
to proclaim them indeed, I will never hide
I must wonder at such blasphemy.' That

God is the great creator of all

At present, I'm plowing through the book of Mathew.
I hadn't picked up the word for many years.
Retirement and its cousin, boredom, will do that to a person,
It'll lead them to do things they haven't done for years.
At first, I began to read it silently, but now I'm reading it aloud.
Reading it aloud makes me feel more attached or connected to those
who care dearly about such things.
I can't read more than two pages at a time, because it's a deep and very dry read.
My mind wanders from scripture to the frozen block of meatloaf
I love meatloaf; I hope it thaws out in time for dinner
Tomorrow I'll read two more pages and see what happens.
I'll leave it open-ended. I'm not looking for a miracle.
I have no expectations; I'm not seeking out a patch for the soul.
Only a brief reprieve from household chores and this mental stream.
I think the book of Mark is next.
