Your Concerned Friend

It seems I'm in the minority here
When it comes to what I do to pass the time
It's not all that popular anymore
To express oneself with line after line
Words carry very little weight
When pictures do the thinking for you
Imagination is a bore
When compared to what technology can do
I practice an art long forgotten
Before all that came to be
I just can't help but take in everything;
The sun, the birds, the sea
It just isn't all that interesting, what's called
"Awesome" in the modern sense
I try to be bold and say what's on my mind
And that's when feelings get tense
It's considered by most to be dull and drab
Without music to tag along
They say "what's the point of these words
If not for some catchy song?".
It seems to me no one much cares for this dying art
They say that was then and this is now - why do you still play the part?
They says its old-fashioned, outdated and archaic
But I don't wish to be just one thing, but a beautiful mosaic
A thousand jagged shards that don't mean much on their own
But somehow work together to form the greater whole
I don't ever wanna pretend
But be myself one hundred percent
From the start, to the middle, to the end
I want you to know exactly what I meant
I believe there's always something more you can say, nothing's so cut and dry
I believe when I take that leap of faith I wont drop like a stone
But spread these dusty wings and fly high
The truth is it matters very little what you're into
The key is relentless passion and tremendous drive
And if you don't have that key we can't stop right here
Just what in the world is it that makes you feel alive?

Yes! Exactly! It's funny you say this because I used to get teased about being the "bookish writer" while my bro was the "cool techie". It's always good to be who you are and ignore those who say what you're into is "not cool". I love songwriting, but I also love poetry too because poetry IS a melodic song when you read it. I felt this way when I read yours. Beautiful!

I just think people should be passionate about SOMETHING. And at times I get discouraged because very few people connect with words (even my greatest friends). But it's who I am and I refuse to be anyone different... happy you received a connection... or should I say Your Concerned Friend is happy ;)

Writing is very theraputic, I'm sure it gives us all outlet on here to express feelings, thoughts, ideas that we'd like to share with others, continue to do so Tim. The art of conversation is not lost here, just gets a little muddled sometimes. Take care, Richard

Thanks so much Richard. Yes it is very "releasing" in a way to write. Sometimes I feel as though I'm completely deadlocked when I don't take the time to write... Your Concerned Friend appreciates your support ;)

That's what is so great about this site so many people who love words. It gives you hope in a world of electronics and sound bites. Everything being consumed at such a fast rate. People get bored so quickly and have lost their power of contemplation.

Yes... it is sad. Over-reliance on technology is unhealthy and I fall victim as well. When the internet goes down I swear I have a mini-heart-attack... Glad you appreciate what I have to say :)

Writing is a great hobby because the possibilities are only as limited as your imagination. Plus, unlike most hobbies, writing is practically free. Thanks Russ!

Timothy...my world is writing! I'd rather do that than ALMOST anything else! ;) There are things that are more pleasurable, of course.....but not many! This is a lovely write. Don't let anyone or anything stand in the way. I'm so glad that I can call you my friend. Concerned friend....all the better! :)

Ha ha thanks Eileen! Always so sweet you are :) To tell you the truth before I started up writing, there wasn't really anything I was at all passionate about.
