There was a young poet named Ben
Whose poetry never did win,
Then his talent, I’m told,
Began to take hold,
Now Ben’s awards never end.

Usually limericks are crude, but it's nice to see more kid-friendly ones now and then. I believe a poet should write first of all, to please himself and that seems to be the story of Ben. Cool piece of writing... I find limericks really hard to write for some reason (I've written a few but I'm assuming they go against the guidelines of this site).

Nice Limerick John. Great meter and flow, without forcing the rhyming sheme. Funny thing about those darn poetry contests - the poems that I think are my best, seldom do well, while others I am not so proud of win a blue ribbon! Ben should not write to win, but simply win by writing. ;-)
