Wise Old Men
Old Wise Men
Remember the oldest are wiser and more knowledgeable by far…
They have lived in this world seeing the best and worse there are.
They have seen more of life’s trip falls than you can ever guess.
They’ve traveled, seen other lives, and worked with those less blessed.
They’ve gained so much at times and then lost again everything.
They’ve pulled themselves up by the seat of their pants, full of life’s bee stings.
Illness and history has dealt them many hard blows if by nothing but chance.
And they’ve often continued to help others with whatever they had.
They’ve reached out a hand to the youth to hold when times got bad.
History and lives will repeat time and again to add to our tears.
To hear of their lives is to know what to avoid and what to fear.
They might help with advice to help clear your path and your way.
And they might give you a chance around the obstacles that for you lay.
Listen to their words, for they are the true gifts of life they give away.
And when their time comes near the end… as you too will ask…
Give them a moment of dignity and respite from life’s hard bite...
Remember they were once your protectors and guiding light…
Now it’s your turn to be their harbor as they enter into the night.
It’s your time to be like the leaders they were…
Following in their footsteps and helping others through life’s strife....
