Winter Scene

Saplings struggle in a sea of snow Naked limbs beat the sky Like a tired swimmer in an undertow Or, like fledglings learning how to fly Nearby trees lurk in the evening gloom Their shadowed shapes in hiding Like Death waiting for an empty tomb Or, like friends furtively confiding Soon rocks and trees will find the night When day is finally done But even in darkness, snow is white And morning brings the sun
