Until You'Ve Been Broken
You are not human
Until you’ve been broken.
I will not linger here
With a child
Who believes the world is fair
You are not human
Until you’ve been broken.
Do not talk of justice
When you have never seen pain!
Do not talk of love
When you have never lost one.
You need pain
You need horror, disappointment
Betrayal. Hate
To exist and understand
Your ignorance is insulting
And I am not your equal
Nor do I have the time
To be your teacher
I hope that by leaving
I help you break a little
You are not human
Until you’ve been broken.
