Until You'Ve Been Broken

You are not human Until you’ve been broken. I will not linger here With a child Who believes the world is fair You are not human Until you’ve been broken. Do not talk of justice When you have never seen pain! Do not talk of love When you have never lost one. You need pain You need horror, disappointment Betrayal. Hate To exist and understand Your ignorance is insulting And I am not your equal Nor do I have the time To be your teacher I hope that by leaving I help you break a little You are not human Until you’ve been broken.

Powerful stuff here. Different perspectives; the one who ends the relationship gives an existential justification for their action. I can agree with the sentiment though I hesitate to claim I know for sure what kind of pain anyone needs to go through in order to learn their humanity. I can only speak for myself in that matter. Also, regardless of whether it's true, I'd never want to break someone just to prove a point...truth be told this poem scares me more than I'm willing to admit.

Brokeness draws us closer to others because in this we are able to understand their pain. Keep the creative pen flowing. Sara

Excellent write I fell your words and I have been broken, wasn't sure this is what made me human. To feel is to live. I like this dark write, it flows well and I enjoyed reading and can relate to so many of the stanza's.
