Trap Door

We all know it exists, beneath the world we know, A breath away, the reality of life lives and breaths. Somewhere, anywhere, all you have to do is peel away the skin, And you would discover a door, a path leading down to it, the darkness within. Everyone knows, we all know, the hidden pull is there, we choose to ignore, But we go on living our lives, pretending we don't. We keep our gaze fixed, eyes upward; ahead, always look ahead, To the images we want and need to see. Once opened, the stairwell downward is one way, The depths of despair becomes a comfort in it’s own sadness. Looking downward gives power, control, poise and curiosity, Looking upward becomes an insurmountable climb, far too few can ever regain. (Stoic)
