These Stripes
Through trials these stripes were earned
coming to grips with the three thousand six hundred fifty days
of staring at four walls
being called by a number instead of my name
Earning the respect of my peers
cast out by the rest
treated as if I were plagued
Drinking to forget the pain
working jobs I hate
cursing god every night
Struggling in the streets
doing it alone
without any parental figures
like everyone else
experiencing pain
These stripes
have brought nothing but pain
so my friends reached their end
behind my eyes were always tears
that refused to flow.
