The Tree of Tears
A single weathered tree
old, battered and forlorn
alone in an empty field
ever aging, never dying
tears of ages past
keeping its roots ever nourished.
The tears of many lives lost
shed in the final moments
of uncounted deaths over ages past
all too painful and sudden
tears shed not of weakness
but of gut wrenching sadness
by the loss of many souls dispatched
at the hand of death and his minions.
These cries, though seemingly silent
to be heard forever, only by those
counted among a unique few.
