The Temple Dancer

What does the temple dancer see? She twists and turns and twirls and whirls The pleasures of the world perhaps But no, they only come and go Within are sorrows yet to come She dances only for her God Tempted not by storms of desire She’s a virgin dedicated To her God, no sin can stain her Water taints not the lotus leaf. Now on her death Her perfect soul Speeds to heaven, into the light To the shelter where no wind blows Unlike those full of sin and pride Far from Earth and far from Heaven But wander in the pathless wind
