The Say Hey Kid

The crowd stood up and roared as he came up to bat and scored entertaining our rowdy bunch in center field. Say Hey was born a poor black boy in Alabama and went all the way to the big leagues in New York and then to the S.F. Giants. His real name was Willie Howard Mays, Jr. wearing number eight for twenty-two years until his final game in 1973. Kind as kind could be and much beloved, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1979 doing baseball the old-fashioned way. Say Hey !! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ For Matt's baseball contest ~~~~~~~~~~~~

Thanks for your welcome observtion & comments Sue .re A fulton This visual poetic form (inspired by the work of the conceptual artist Hamish Fulton's (b 1946) landscape 'text-and-image' work 'a seven day walk in the mountains Switzerland early summer 1984'. This poetic form has 5 words of 5 letters or 6 words of 6 letters (as above) or 7 words of 7 letters & so on with a pastoral theme.I call this form a FULTON as a tribute to Hamish and his art. That just about sums it up. Some people still insist that he was the most complete all around ballplayer ever. They might well be right. I was lucky enough to see him play and I actually saw him during his prime at a night game at Shea Stadium in 1965 with my father. He scored the winning run in a mad dash to the plate. I saw two other Hall of Famers as well. Willie McCovey and on the mound-Juan Marichal. Tom Seaver had not arrived yet.Thank you for your comment on my contest poem. Regards, GK
