The Old Couple
The old couple smile as they sit together
Unspoken words like a song
Their lives seemed always to have been entwined
In their minds eye they are still young.
The wrinkles about their faces
Are unseen by their weak eyes
She is still as beautiful as always
He the handsome upright guy.
For him the wrinkled lines upon his face
Show wars he saw in which he fought
The pressure of finding work, to feed them all
Keeping healthy, all things good he sought.
For her, the lines are from keeping alive
Making sure her family were well kept
From having children, husband to survive
From turning house to home, as they slept.
But always there were two in the fight
As side by side they only do good
Together they achieved what we all want
Parents that are loved, and understood.
