The Murder of the Oak Trees
The Murder of the Oak Trees
By Elton Camp
Perhaps in even in nobody’s wildest dream
Could sports fanaticism become so extreme
Supporters of Auburn or the Crimson Tide
Have made it a point each other to deride.
A man who has attended neither school
May make himself into some raging fool
The competition has taken a turn of late
That goes all the way into senseless hate
The state is buzzing now that one of these
Claims to have poisoned some Auburn trees
The accused was promptly thrown into jail
And fifty thousand dollars set as his bail
An Auburn ex-athletic director did mention
Trees could be saved by divine intervention
Seems to me God has more of which to see
Than to step in and keep alive some old tree
Of course it would only be a deranged rat
To take sports competition as far as that
Let’s hope that fans of each state school
Will do nothing and allow tempers to cool
