The Monster

A young boy was told a good night,
a good night to sleep right and tight.
But crawling in the sheets of his bed,
in the corner he found three eyes
glowing red.
A malicious monster crawled into light,
a frantic and most disgusting of sights!
It had hairy long legs and sharp claws,
and guarded itself as though ready
to brawl.
It was giant and vicious with fangs.
It hopped with springy legs that sprang.
The startled young boy gave a loud shout
when the foam started bubbling from
its big ugly mouth.
The monster shrieked a high pitched noise,
for it was startled by the shout of the boy.
And back and forth, they did scream
an orchestrated cacophony, streaming
of screams.
And then the boy saw that it was scared
as it curled in a corner, shaking in despair.
He became curious and called out to it,
"What is you and where do you come from
and how be it?"
The monster perked up its frightened head
looking over the boy sitting on the edge of his bed.
And it said, "I am George and I live in the night
I am sad because everyone screams in fright
at my sight."
The young boy's head dropped in guilt
and looked at the grief that he had built.
George now didn't look so scary,
it was just a big creature who was maybe
a little hairy.
The boy said, "Would you like to play with me?"
George had a smile that beamed with glee.
Together they laid in the blankets and sheets
shaking up stories of ghouls, ghosts, goblins
and beasts.
They laughed through the hours of the night,
and the boy hugged George closely and tight.
