A stained teacup sits sadly in the sink Ashes of a past fire grey the hearth An unread newspaper, old man's spectacles A packet of mints lay on the scratched surface Of a beeswaxed table Waiting for Thomas Ryan to return

This is very evocative, LIz. Makes me want to know about the occupant, where he has gone, when he will return. I think I like it even better than the other. WEre you late for the empty apt. contest? I think this would have made an excellent entry! Luv, Andrea

One can feel the emptiness here, Liz-- losing someone definitely makes everything seem bleak-- thanks for sharing-- nikko :)

This is how my father's house seemed when I went to pack away his things after he died last year, Liz. Tears flowing now. Beautifully written and it touched me personally. Love, Carolyn
