The Creative Process

Some days the poems literally flow Can't hit the keys fast enough Other days the struggle is so immense We find it extremely tough The creative process is a fickle thing It can fill you with so much joy But at times it can drive you literally insane Your faith it tends to destroy Feels like you'll never ever write again You've used up all your words For the rest of you're life, no more poems They've flown like a flock of birds Then you wake one day, your head overflows Again, you can't type fast enough Crazy is what I call this creative process But love it no matter how tough © Jack Ellison 2013

You know I remember when I would struggle to get some lines down. I was using free verse a lot at first, actually before I came here. I did at one point find appeal in the Shakespearean sonnets, also before here, but since getting here I haven't really had too many mental blocks. Where some people find fixed forms limited, I needed that, because I had plenty of ideas, but everything would seem so random and sometimes didn't flow. I am amazed how much you write, at the level you do.

Quatrains are just about all I write! Not interested in exploring any further, really! To me, growing up, it was the only form I knew! Thanks Wayland! Merry Christmas!

But the more I think about it, it makes sense. I know you write other forms at times, but mostly quatrains. Some people don't like fixed forms for fear of the form forcing the words. In defense of fixed forms I say when you truly get the form it doesn't force the words, but focuses the words and gives them power. Great work again.

Yes Jack, l find that when we pursue poetry it becomes elusive, we have to let it pursue us as we become inspired. What seems to inspire me most is reading and enjoying others poetry. Creativity can't be forced as your poem conveys so well. Mele Kalikimaka!

You're telling me! Hubby always solves that problem for me... and Dragon always has his antics going on after I read your poems each day, too! He just can't stay away from HIS Cathie... as he calls her... He thinks you should write about her more often... But not to worry... You are HIS Jack... and I'm HIS mama... the penguins are HIS penguins, ect... At 2 years old... everything revolves around him... or so he thinks... Silly Dragon!... Or maybe he's right!... Ummm! Gotta think about that one.

We have a son that does it for us... we don't even try to solve these computer glitches... we just say, "Scott, my puter's broke!" and he fixes it ! LOL XOX Tell Dragon he's the nicest Dragon Cathie and I have EVER known!
