The Covenant

When I was about score less one, I met with power of an immortal foe, I say true Satan is not just a simple fun, So I strained in vain where safe to go. The spiteful spirit was up and down to maim my loin, And though I ran a refuge secure could no behold; On the verge of death some voice I heard "Of Jesus join, And troubled man you'll be safe," so the sound told. So a brother's Bible I borrowed and read The rewarding deal in John's three of ten and six, And the good they gained the saints who on right tread; And I said, "I will with the Salvation Army mix." But the Voice came again and I heard it say, "The Master's will you must attain; Be honest and repent and repeatedly pray." And the deal was sealed with no more bargain. That's the Covenant and how it came, And still it's lively and will live to remain; I will be firm and bold to avoid the blame, Work hard and worship to the bond sustain.
